Brief:
Canopy children’s nurseries is an ambitious and exciting day nursery that provides a home-from-home learning experience for children. Focusing on learning through play and giving children the freedom, space and expert care to grow, Canopy wanted the visual side of their brand to reflect their focus on growth and a more upmarket day nursery brand.
Process:
After an initial mood board session & then presenting 3 routes, I developed an identity that was gender neutral and focused on the nurturing role that Canopy plays in children’s lives. Themes of growth, care and playfulness were at the forefront of each design process.
Initial concepts:
Other routes focused on being more playful or more obviously centred around children, one using plant prints (something nurseries practice) and a calm neutral colour pallet to evoke a more premium day nursery and one using illustrations and playful colours to highlight learning Canopy's learn through play approach. Ultimately, the brand needed to focus on the child's growth and journey, and really connect with the name Canopy.

Outcome:
Focusing on unique letterforms and expressive leaf illustrations, the final output brings Canopy’s ideals to life, and shows its character. The colours and typography promote a learning experience for children that stays inviting, gender neutral and most importantly of all, playful. The brand works across a range of media, from signage, uniforms and printed ads to websites and social media.
